Welcome to the 2025 International Conference, Modeling Learning: Between Human Cognition, Artificial Intelligence, and Mathematics (cogmathia2025), jointly organized by the Association Tunisienne de Didactique des Mathématiques ATDM and the Association de Recherche et de Développement en Éducation et Cognition en Sciences et Technologies (ARDCoST).
This partnership reflects a shared commitment to fostering synergies among mathematics, cognitive science, education, and technology by approaching learning through the lens of modeling. It signals a mutual intention to strengthen connections between the fields of didactics, cognitive science, artificial intelligence, and mathematics. Through this scientific gathering, we aim to create a space for interdisciplinary dialogue around the contemporary challenges of learning.
This interdisciplinary conference seeks to explore current approaches and dynamics of learning at the crossroads of mathematics, cognitive science, and artificial intelligence. The goal is to understand how mathematical models can formalize and connect both human and artificial learning processes, while also addressing the social, ethical, and epistemological implications of such approaches. It aims to shed light on the models that help us comprehend and articulate both natural and artificial cognitive processes, and to unite an interdisciplinary community around a common objective: to better understand the dynamics of learning—human and artificial—through mathematical, computational, and cognitive approaches. By bringing together researchers in mathematics, learning, modeling, philosophy of mind, and the ethics of technology, we intend to foster dialogue around three major questions: How can human learning processes be modeled? In what ways do these models inspire artificial intelligence systems? What are the ethical and social implications of such modeling approaches?
It is from this perspective that the conference invites in-depth reflection, structured around four main thematic axes: the mathematical foundations of learning; the modeling of human cognitive processes; the relationships between natural and artificial cognition; and the epistemological, ethical, and social issues raised by these models. By encouraging the intersection of knowledge and practices, this event aims to contribute to the development of an integrated and critical understanding of the different forms of intelligence—human and artificial—and of the ways in which they are understood, represented, and transformed.
